Youth of the Year

Youth of the Year 2017
Elias Miranda

Congratulations to our 2016 Youth of the Year, Elias Miranda! Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys and Girls Club of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club teens. Club members who earn Youth of the Year title embody the values of leadership and service; academic excellence; and healthy lifestyles. They exemplify the critical impact that Boys & Girls Club has on the lives of people.
Elias was selected out of all the youth in the Boys and Girls Club of the Leech Lake Area to represent our community at the state capitol and the 2017 Youth of the Year conference.

He met with Minnesota Representatives and Senators and shared his story with other youth leaders in Minnesota.
Elias Miranda is Cass Lake's Youth of the year. Elias is 17, attends Cass Lake-Bena High School and plans on attending Leech Lake Tribal College when he finishes high school. Elias has been coming to the Club since he was in elementary school and now works as a Junior Staff here. He was chosen because of his exceptional leadership, positive relationships and the trust he has built with Club Members.

Elias is a very hard worker and uses his presence to make sure the kids feel safe and welcome at the Club. He spends a lot of his time playing basketball with the elementary, middle school, and high school kids. He has also taught drumming to some of the younger kids and is very good at promoting understanding and resolving conflict within the club. He is a positive male role model for our kids and is an amazing mentor in our mentoring program here. We are so proud of his work here and excited for his plans for the future.
